Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- What is B Hockey?
The Developmental B league is a separate division of the Mid-States Club Hockey Association aimed at younger players wishing to check out high school hockey. It can include middle school players along with younger high school players who may be playing JV or Varsity. Elite players are not allowed to play B as its main goal is development. - When is the B season?
Developmental B League runs in the Spring – typically in April thru June. USA Hockey membership is required – use the number from the preceding winter season. - Who can play on a B team in Mid-States? What grades and ages? What are the rules for Elite players?
Per Mid-States rules, these are the currently eligible ages for B League for the upcoming seasons.

- Can I play on a club team at the same time as B?
Yes. Dual rostering is normal and players and coaches normally work around schedule conflicts. You will eventually find yourself playing against one of your club teammates in your high school games – which is quite fun. - Is there checking in B hockey?
Yes, there is checking. Referees and coaches are also aware this can be the first exposure of some players to elevated body contact. - Do we get Jerseys?
Typically the B team orders the same jerseys as varsity which can be kept and used in future years for Varsity and JV, but a few loaner jerseys are sometimes available. - Do I have to attend Lafayette to play on the B team?
No. 7th and 8th graders should play for the high school they will attend, however if their school is not fielding a B team they are generally free to move around. - Are there practices?
Yes, the B team usually gets some extra ice during the season when Varsity plays on the same night as a schedule practice. - What is the Summer Skates program?
In July and August each summer Lafayette skates once a week at the Maryville University Hockey Center, our home rink. This summer program is available to our incoming and current players to focus on skill development as well as to prepare for club tryouts. These skates are also used by the program to evaluate players for placement on next year’s Varsity, Junior Varsity and B teams. Players in grades 9-12 can be on more than one team. - Where can I get more information about Lafayette hockey?
